I started taking classes with Gina at BodyCare Pilates and Yoga Studio about three months ago. I had been working out on my own with Youtube videos before that, but I felt really stressed and had gained weight due to poor sleep and emotional eating. One of my friends brought me to the BodyCare studio to take pilates and yoga classes with Gina, and I began to feel less stressed, especially in terms of fitness and weight.

 

Gina is very patient and conducts class in a relaxed atmosphere, though you can tell that she cares a lot about the students and the practices of yoga and pilates. She constantly reminds us that we are not competing with other people; we are doing what is best for our bodies at this moment.

 

Her classes really helped me refocus my image of myself. Before, I had been almost obsessively counting calories and feeling guilty for not losing weight, but after I started classes with Gina, I realized that depriving myself and punishing myself was not a healthy or a happy way to live. In class, Gina showed me that it doesn't matter what your current level of fitness or flexibility is as long as you are working with, not against, your body to improve day by day.

 

She makes sure that we are performing moves correctly and encourages us to focus on form rather than on brute strength because using the correct muscles and technique is more important. She gives detailed, effective explanations of which muscles to use, how to activate the muscles, and why we should use those muscles (usually to protect ligaments and joints or to strengthen the correct muscles). Don't worry if you feel like you are not strong enough of flexible enough; Gina will give modifications depending on each person's ability or flexibility. Gina's positivity, reminders to focus on the present, and friendliness really make the pilates and yoga classes accessible and effective, and I am always surprised when she dismisses us from class because it doesn't feel like an entire hour has already passed!

 

I highly recommend Gina's pilates and yoga classes at BodyCare Pilates and Yoga Studio. Bonus 1: Her English is also really good, so if you don't speak Chinese, Gina will translate for you! Bonus 2: If your muscles cramp, Gina has amazingly effective ointment that she will offer to you. Bonus 3: If you have specific aches and pains, Gina will give you suggestions on how to relieve those pains.
